The Gate — J Calaway — Make Today Count -- Love With Its Sleeves Rolled Up

Sep 11, 2026    J Calaway

"Generosity is love with its sleeves rolled up."

BIG IDEA

Love is the feeling; generosity is what the feeling does when it gets moving. God calls us to close the gap between "I care" and "I did."

KEY POINTS

• Love with words only isn't the love of God; love with actions is (1 John 3:17-18).

• "Keep warm and well fed" without doing anything is useless (James 2:15-16).

• The Samaritan saw, felt, went, and did. That's love finished talking (Luke 10:33-34).

SCRIPTURES

1 John 3:17-18 · James 2:15-16 · Luke 10:33-34 · Hebrews 13:16

TODAY'S CHALLENGE

Replace "let me know if you need anything" with one specific act today. Don't offer. Do. Name the person, name the day, roll up a sleeve.

REFLECT

1. Who have you "offered" to help without ever actually helping?

2. What's one concrete thing you could do for them this week?

PRAY

Lord, don't let my love stay in my mouth. Move it to my hands. Show me one person and one thing today, and give me the courage to just do it.

You're better than yesterday, but not near as good as tomorrow. So make today count.
